Do YOU know the difference between models "of" a system vs models "for" a system? It is the difference between drawing a picture of the water cycle and actually building a functioning model to make it rain! There will be a focus on earth science systems and body systems including models for the heart, lungs, and more.

How many times have you used models to lead instruction or to assess student learning? When was the last time your students created functioning models to understand the world around them?

Learn how models can help your students make sense of a phenomena, while creating problem solvers in your classroom. You will create STEM-based problem scenarios for your students to solve using systems and system models. Walk away with strategies and resources which can easily be brought back to your school.

Audience: PreK-8th Grade Teachers

(In order to maximize the impact of this workshop, only educators who work directly with students will be allowed to register and receive a kit. Please contact DaNel Hogan if you would like to attend but are in an administrative role.)

This workshop is part of the STEMAZing Workshop Series. The STEMAZing Project’s philosophy on teacher professional development is simple: It must be hands-on and engaging – putting the educators in the seat of the students to experience STEM lessons firsthand. It must provide the educators with the equipment and supplies they need to implement the lessons and activities in their classrooms the next day if they choose. It must be facilitated by master educators who have themselves been in the classroom.
