Meet Edison and take him back to the classroom with you! (www.meetedison.com) Edison is a little robot, with lots of potential.  From pre-programmed barcodes to drag and drop graphical programming and even the ability to use Python (a relatively simple programming language), there are lots of EdVentures this starter robot can take your students on. You can even program Edison to be controlled using a television remote! We are certain you will get hooked on this small but powerful robot. Each participant will get an Edison robot along with the book The Wild Robot by Peter Brown and accessories to go along with their new robot including compatible LEGOs! Kit valued at nearly $100.

Special thanks to Tucson Electric Power for sponsoring this workshop. Teachers will have a chance to interact with IT (Information Technology) professionals from TEP over lunch to learn more about this STEM career path.

Audience: K-12th Grade Traditional Classroom Teachers ONLY

This workshop is a repeat of the past Meet Edison STEMAZing Workshops held previously. Teachers are only allowed to attend this workshop once and receive ONE Edison robot.

(Due to an agreement with Microbric, LLC only traditional classroom educators can receive an Edison robot and kit. If you are interested in meeting Edison but educate students in a different role - homeschool, PreK, administration, librarian, informal educator, etc, please contact DaNel Hogan for options to attend but not receive a kit.)

Facilitators: STEMAZing Facilitators Sherrie Dennis and Michael Griffith

Location: Tucson Electric Power - Downtown, 88 E Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85701

Parking: Participants will be able to park in the county parking garage and get validated at the end of the day. TEP is just a short walk from the garage. If you need special parking arrangements because you cannot make the walk, please contact DaNel Hogan at danel.hogan@schools.pima.gov

Course Date: Monday, February 12, 2018

Time: Breakfast and check-in starts at 8:00 am. Workshop begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm.

(NOTE: Edison Robots are provided to teachers attending this workshop under an agreement with Microbric. All participants who attend this workshop understand their contact information will be shared with Microbric (name, work address, work phone, work email, organization the educator works for, school district, position, and grade level) and consent to have Microbic contact them via email.)

This workshop is part of the STEMAZing Workshop Series. The STEMAZing Project’s philosophy on teacher professional development is simple: It must be hands-on and engaging – putting the educators in the seat of the students to experience STEM lessons firsthand. It must provide the educators with the equipment and supplies they need to implement the lessons and activities in their classrooms the next day if they choose. It must be facilitated by master educators who have themselves been in the classroom.
