3D printing is becoming more and more popular and the possibilities for turning imagined designs into physical objects is easier than ever. BUT, how many teacher have access to 3D printers? What about the expense of printing objects your students have designed? What are the best programs for helping students create 3D printable designs? The STEMAZing Project is excited to partner with Xerocraft, our local makerspace, to provide southern Arizona teachers access to 3D printers they can borrow for classroom use. Classroom teachers can borrow TEN 3D printers at once for a week of classroom engagement. The possibilities and connections to what you are already teaching are endless! Whether a complete novice, who has never used a 3D printer, or experienced, join us for this workshop to learn:

  • How to operate a 3D printer
  • How to perform basic maintenance on printers
  • How to produce your own 3D models using FREE online software
  • How to convert a 3D model into a 3D printable file
NOTE: This workshop does not include a STEMAZing Kit but rather access for local classroom teachers to borrow and use 3D printers from Xerocraft Hackerspace for FREE. If you are outside the Tucson area, you are still welcome to attend knowing you will learn a lot but not have access to borrow the 3D printers.

Audience: PreK-12th Grade Teachers

(In order to maximize the impact of this workshop, only educators who work directly with students will be allowed to register and receive a kit. Please contact DaNel Hogan if you would like to attend but are in an administrative role.)

Facilitators: Xerocraft 3D Printing and 3D Modeling Experts

Location: Office of the Pima County School Superintendent       200 N Stone Avenue | Tucson, AZ 85701 (NOTE: teachers will also be walking  a few blocks, 0.3 miles, to Xerocraft Hackerspace.)

Course Date: Saturday, January 27, 2018

Cost: $25 cost includes materials, continental breakfast, and lunch.

Time: Breakfast and check-in starts at 8:00 am. Workshop begins at 8:30 am and releases at 3:30 pm.

This workshop is part of the STEMAZing Workshop Series. The STEMAZing Project’s philosophy on teacher professional development is simple: It must be hands-on and engaging – putting the educators in the seat of the students to experience STEM lessons firsthand. It must provide the educators with the equipment and supplies they need to implement the lessons and activities in their classrooms the next day if they choose. It must be facilitated by master educators who have themselves been in the classroom.
