With a focus on paper circuits as a tool for engaging students with the science and engineering practices, we will explore the various ways you can use paper circuits to bring engineering design challenges to life in your classroom. The book Rosie Revere and the Raucous Riveters by Andrea Beaty will also be highlighted as a resource for developing engineering design challenges. What is a valve? Where do we find them in nature and in the engineered world we live in? Educators will take home a STEMAZing Kit of books/equipment/supplies worth nearly $150 so they can immediately engage their students back in the classroom.

Audience:  Teachers attending the Arizona STEM Adventure with their students from grades 4-8 and other educators who are invited by the organizers.

Facilitators:

DaNel Hogan - Director of The STEMAZing Project

Brooke Meyer - Director of Programs for the Southern Arizona Research, Science, and Engineering Foundation

Margaret Wilch - Master Biotechnology Educator at Tucson High School and Super Successful SARSEF Teacher

                Tucson, AZ 85709

Course Date: Friday, November 16, 2018

Cost:  FREE - Thanks to our gracious sponsors and partners - IBM, Raytheon, Pima Community College, SARSEF, and The STEMAZing Project.

Time: 9:30 am - 12:00 pm (Once teachers check their students in at registration, they will be escorted directly to the workshop room by PCC volunteers. They will then rejoin their students after the workshop concludes. Snacks and coffee will be available starting at 9:00 am.)

This is a STEMAZing Workshop. The STEMAZing Project’s philosophy on teacher professional development is simple: It must be hands-on and engaging – putting the educators in the seat of the students to experience STEM lessons firsthand. It must provide the educators with the equipment and supplies they need to implement the lessons and activities in their classrooms the next day if they choose. It must be facilitated by master educators who have themselves been in the classroom.
